gili and josh: the engagement

sometimes it scares me just a little…when a bride is so in love with us and our photography, it scares me. it’s the halo effect: what if they think i’m better than i really am; what if they think their photos are going to be better than they actually are; what if, what if, what if. sometimes the fear grabs ahold of me and makes me choke just a little. it’s those times that i have to remember what brought me to this point and who is standing next to me and who is in front of me and Who is greater than any fear and Who has promised great things to me.

every bond i form with my clients is different. it’s funny, the more i encounter brides the more i realize that they dont fit into boxes and categories and i dont relate to one of them the same. gili and i have been planning this day for awhile.i say “we” because quite frankly, she quickly became one of those brides that i felt i truly knew. she has an incredible heart and she loves to write and she has huge aspirations and she so reminds me of myself and yet she’s intriguingly different. when she first contacted me nearly a year ago, in the baby step stages of planning her wedding. instantly, i knew i wanted this girl in front of my camera and instantly, i knew that i was going to love her. from that moment on, gili and josh have been ecstatic about their photography. gili’s a regular commenter on my blog and i blog stalk hers from time to time to check in and see how life is treating her. so when the day finally came, before the sun had official rose, there we were, the four of us and a four legged little fur baby, ready, excited, and if i’m being honest, a tiny bit nervous.

gili and josh plan to intertwine their lives together in front of all of their friends and family in one of the most romantic settings i can think of. outside, under a chuppah at her parents lake house. i dont know what it is about the romantic intoxication that gili creates when she describes her wedding but i can tell you now, andrew’s going to have to remind me to focus, to squeeze my hand and keep me from tears. he’ll whisper i love you and through our camera, we’ll marvel at the incredible gift that is love as we watch the two of them hold eachother close forever.
