between two points

from the miniscule amount of math, geometry and whatnot that i retained from school, i do remember there being something about the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. i think it’s a law, or a rule, or common sense or something. either way, it’s a fact that my dog clearly ignores.

on our daily walks, garland zigs and zags across the road. it’s as if she doesn’t realize that she’s causing me to swap the leash from hand to hand every few seconds. just as she gets comfortable on one side of the street, her ears will tweak at the tiniest sound and suddenly she decides the other side of the road is far more exciting. a fluttering leaf falls from a tree and catches her attention, a reckless squirrel decides to make a break for it and the zig zagging continues.

so, while the shortest distance between two points is clearly a straight line, garland apparently has decided that there’s just too much to see to settle for the shortest distance.
