we sat, quietly cuddled against one another in front of the tv eating christmas cookies. we over indulged in christmas cookies this year to the point that i’m fairly certain our centers are now sugary sweet and coated in an assortment of holiday sprinkles. we watched as an animated jim carey learn life lessons as he was visited by a variety of ghosts and despite the sugar, we were getting tired.
as my eyes began to get heavy and the glow of the christmas tree slowly tried to lull me into sleep, i felt the rising and falling of andrew’s breath as my mind began to wander. what would it be like, if the ghosts were me? what if i could be visited by my past and my future self? what would they say? the end of the year is right around the corner and as i’ve finished my evaluation of the year it’s strange to look back and see my struggles, my tears and my growth. i wish i could go back and talk to myself, give a pep talk or tell myself to relax, spend more time outside or with a friend, to stress a little less and focus on what really matters and to show myself a little grace. i wondered if seeing a glimpse into my future might change how i live now. my mind wanders to strange places fueled by sugar and edible sparkles.
tomorrow is christmas eve. the stores will close and families settle in for their holiday celebrations. there is so much on my heart approaching this christmas. i feel overwhelmed by the goals and ideas i have for the coming year – there are just so many things i want to accomplish, so many things i want to strive for, so many things that i want to give to God and see Him do amazing things. but in the mayhem that is my mind and the busyness that is this time of year with cookies and times spent with friends and families, i want to find stillness. i want to be still, to rest in His peace and remember my Savior this christmas…
dwell in possibility…and merry CHRISTmas!
