emerald coast mud run for orphans: gettin down and dirty

saturday morning, 6am i readied myself, feeling mostly prepared. i had my weight in water and ice, sunscreen, snacks, camera bags packed, and highly caffeinated coffee. saturday morning 10:21am i felt entirely unprepared. the coffee was gone, the cards had to be switched to jpeg {the horror!} and the water just didnt seem to stay cold enough and i’m fairly certain i had ten layers of sunblock on. you know that moment when you think “holy monkey i just bit off way more than i can chew!”…enter that moment at 10:21am. i braced myself in that moment. it swept over me and i was ready to sink, for the weight to crash over me pushing me down until i ceased to exist. but i didnt sink. i waited but the crash never came.

saturday evening, 5somethingpm the last runner of heart of the bride’s emerald coast mud run for orphans crossed the muddy finish line. i practically had to pull my cramped fingers from my camera as it had a death grip on it for the past 9 hours. i sat down for a moment, trying to process my thoughts passed all the mud, the sweat, the sunscreen, the bug spray, the cramps, the exhaustion and my fear of the sheer mass amount of editing and sorting before me…and then i found it: i hadnt been swept away!

in the midst of it all, i’d been held strong and i’m not even going to try a little bit to say it was by any part of my own. it amazes me the things that, when done for my Savior, complete come together solely because of His hand in it all. over 3000 photos and who knows how much mud and upwards of a 1000 runners – it all came together because we were there for Him, we were there to share what we had for those who are widowed, orphaned and in need.

dwell in possibility…
